Given today´s extremely competitive commercial environments, not all organisations can afford to hire a dedicated occupational safety and health specialist, complete with the up to date skills necessary to tackle the range of risks that can be faced by employers.

The manager with special responsibility for health & safety may very well have a job description that includes many other onerous duties, leaving insufficient time to develop high level H&S skills.

Symptoms of a lack of internal expertise include missing, inadequate or superficial risk assessments, repeat accidents, extensive and expensive use of personal protective equipment.
